Here Comes Nick

We left Mesa AZ in November 07 - Nick's first year of competitive gymnastics. He was able to participate in one preliminary meet before we left. We told him that we would get him into a program as soon as we landed in Dallas. We landed and it took time to find and research our options. He was about a month behind his level here (Level 4) and the coaches decided that he would not compete during the '08 season. He needed to catch-up. He never a once complained. He just kept showing up for practice twice a week. (Each practice is 3 1/2 hours.)

Each time baseball, soccer or basketball sign-ups would come along, I'd ask him, "Hey, do you want to take a break from gymnastics and try something different?" His reply, "No Mom. I do that stuff at school and I'm pretty good at it, but I just want to keep doing gymnastics."

So he continued the year (2008) doing his gymnastics practice. Practice, practice, practice... and then there was the first meet of 2009 -the Liukin Invitational earlier this month. (Nastia's gym, owned by her Dad.) It fell on a Sunday and he, along with another Level 5 boy who is also a member of our church, did not compete. Once again, no complaining.

This morning was the Star Center Invitational held in Austin. Glenn and Nick traveled Friday night. Nick competed Saturday morning and they traveled home this evening. Glenn brought home one very very happy boy! Way to go Nick! Great Job!

He received 1st place in the All-Around. The All-Around is the Grand Tally of all six events. He brought home 4 gold (1st), 1 silver (2nd) and 1 bronze (6th). The numbers are based on a 16-point scale. His Vault was a 15.3 (1st). Rings was a 15.1 (1st-2 way tie). Parallel Bars was a 15.5 (1st). High Bar was a 15 (2nd). Floor Exercise was a 14.5 (6th) and Pommel Horse/Mushroom was a 13.8 (1st-3 way tie).

There were 62 boys ages 6 to 7 in his competitive league. I believe there were 12 teams and Eagle Gymnastics brought home 1st place in both Level 4, ages 6 to 7 and Level 4, ages 8 to 9. They headed for home before the Level 5 boys were complete. Way to go Eagle Gymnastics!
